Cherry blossom, bleeding heart and hyacinths for spring

Flowers for spring

by Roselia, 10 year old student writer

Flowers bloom in spring. Three flowers that bloom in the spring are hyacinths, bleeding hearts and cherry blossoms.

Hyacinths: The shades of spring

Hyacinths have a beautiful smell and many different colors.

Each color flower has a different smell and hyacinths are normally used in perfume making. Hyacinths are surprisingly in the same family as asparagus. They are used to celebrate the Persian New Year. Hyacinths are poisonous if eaten. Different colored hyacinths have different meanings, pink hyacinths mean playful or joy, the purple flowers mean “deep regret” and white represents love and prayer. Hyacinth’s scientific name is Hyacinthaceae and you can grow and find them in November through May depending on where you live.

Bleeding Hearts: Four petals for a heart

There are four petals on a bleeding heart, two main pink ones that look like a heart, and two white ones that are below the main ones. A bleeding heart is part of the poppy family. Other names the bleeding heart have are, “lyre flower” and “lady-in-a-bath.” Some of the places the flower is native to are Northern China, Korea, Japan and North America. Some Bleeding hearts will self-seed in very moist and shady areas. They need these conditions to be healthy. There is a rare white bleeding heart that is a symbol of purity and innocence or beautiful young women who died in a tragic way. A normal bleeding heart symbolizes passionate love and romance. I you hear about black purple etc. you shouldn’t buy the seeds because they don’t exist and it is a scam. There are only pink and white bleeding hearts.

Cherry blossoms: A beautiful fruit flower

Cherry blossoms aren’t actually native to the U.S but they are native to Japan. Picnicking beneath cherry blossom trees is a Japanese tradition. They make the best-selling perfume in the U.S. Japan does not have the most Cherry Blossoms in the world, but Macon, Georgia does. There are 200 different varieties of cherry blossom. They aren’t always pink, they are sometimes white. Cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of the spring, a time of renewal. Their life is very short. After their beauty lives for around two weeks, the blossoms start to die and fall.

I learned a lot about all three flowers and, like where they are native to, their meanings, and what they are used for.
