Clean beauty products are better for you and can help you bring your skin back to life in the spring. This article will include what is different about clean beauty products, what chemicals are bad in beauty products, clean beauty products brands and where to find them, and lastly how to make your own natural moisturizer.

What chemicals are bad in beauty products

Beauty products might make you look pretty, but the ingredients in them can be really bad for you. According to Business Insider some toxic ingredients are added during the making of beauty products, while product companies put other chemicals into the makeup to help with absorption, shine, shimmer, or a non-greasy feel. You may be surprised but toxic makeup is nothing new. The ancient Greeks used metals on their skin as makeup, and queens in Egypt wore black eye makeup that was made with lead. Some chemicals in beauty products are asbestos which is cancer causing, mercury which can damage your kidneys and your nervous system, phthalates which can mimic or block the hormones in females, and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) which can irritate your eyes, lungs, or skin. While it may be hard to believe that beauty companies would ever include bad chemicals for you in their products, it is a sad fact that they do.  

What is different about clean beauty products

Clean beauty is different from regular beauty products. First, they don’t have bad chemicals, second, they are made with things that are good for the planet and lastly they will do good for your skin. According to goop.com, clean beauty products are good for your health and skin. It’s still common for beauty products companies to add bad chemicals for you in the products, and sadly it is still legal. Clean beauty can make your skin glow without having serious affects later in life, like cancer.

Natural face moisturizer recipe

Now that I have talked about all about clean beauty products here is a recipe to make your own clean face moisturizer.

Ingredients & materials:

• Olive or other oil (infused or not)
• Coconut oil
• Shea butter or coconut butter, or mango butter 
• Essential oil
• Hand mixer or stand up mixer OR food processor

Natural Face Moisturizer Recipe Steps: 

• Gather all of your materials. 
• Put your mixing bowl in freezer or fridge to chill  
• Melt your butter over low heat, then set aside to cool slightly
• Once the melted butter has cooled slightly our into chill mixing bowl and add your oil 
• Put back in freezer or fridge for 5-10 min 
• Use your mixer to whip your butters and oil 1-5 min
• Put back in freezer or fridge to chill for 1-5 min
• Alternate between mixing and chilling every 1-5 min, the mixture should change from transparent to milky to creamy
• Continue until it is thick, white and looks like whipped cream. 
• When you reach the consistency you want, put in a container and put it in the fridge to cure overnight.
