industrial hemp farming and industrial cannabis are changing the landscape of American cannabis

CBD Oil and Farming–A new wave of cannabis-inspired agriculture

by Daniel Downing Marijuana isn’t just for smoking anymore. With industrial cannabis on the rise, it is time to better understand industrial hemp uses. The decision to buy industrial hemp and industrial cannabis affects US farming. Industrial Hemp Farming promises to play a big role in the future of the cannabis industry. The Hemp Industries Association, a membership-based non-profit trade group, whose purpose is to educate the market and advance the hemp economy is one such resource for understanding the changing cannabis laws. Still, the legality of cannabis can be tricky. In this article, Mind Key has tried to distill new and existing laws to better understand the industrial hemp plant as a whole. Here is what we currently know about what we can and cannot...

Recreational cannabis legal minefields are due to the many issues with marijuana as a possible legal substance.

Your rights as a recreational cannabis user

By Joseph Gonzalez Be on the lookout‒‒recreational cannabis might be coming to your state soon. There are a great many proponents of legalization. That being said, recreational cannabis legal minefields can make it difficult for users to understand what is legal‒‒and what isn’t. A poll done by Marist College showed that more than half of Americans 18 or older have tried marijuana, and almost a quarter of America’s adults currently use it. As medical marijuana is making strides in America, recreational marijuana is right behind it in terms of progression, even if the movement has had slower traction.   Slow, but sure progress As of the date of this publication, Statista, a source for statistics, reports that only nine states along with Washington D.C. have legalized the substance for...

Holistic healthcare considers cannabis in this personal healing account.

Healing with Compassion: A caregiver’s experience

Compassionate healthcare considers cannabis use for patients as a way to heal with dignity. Cris McCullough, MA, is a Holistic Counselor with a practice in Portsmouth, RI. This personal account tells of her first-hand experience with medical marijuana in Rhode Island as a caregiver of a cancer patient who was rapidly losing weight due to aggressive treatment.   By Cris McCullough, MA, Holistic Counselor   It was with some anticipation that we entered a new world together, my BFF of 60 years and myself. As we crossed the threshold of the Greenleaf Compassion Center, we didn’t exactly know what to expect. I had known Marcia since college. She was the maid of honor at my wedding, and godmother to my daughter. We had been through a lot together over...

Medicinal cannabis users: Know your rights

By Joseph Gonzalez   Lawmakers and cannabis users making strides toward legalization have taken charge of the medical marijuana debate. In an ever-changing America, it can be difficult to keep up with the constantly-changing law. A substance that used to be outright banned throughout the U.S., this Schedule I substance is now widely being considered for its medical uses.   The legality of medical marijuana With Proposition 215, California, in 1996, became the first state to legalize medical marijuana. As of the date of this publication, the National Conference of State Legislature reports that a total of 30 states, plus the District of Columbia, have followed suit, legalizing marijuana for medical use. Twenty-two of these states, plus Washington D.C., have policies that have decriminalized possession of small amounts of the substance,...

Cannabis research shows CBD aids athletic recovery, performance, and training.

Athletic lifestyle: How cannabis can benefit your training

By Kevin Hall Athletes come in all shapes and sizes and are concerned with all manner of endeavors. Many feel the demands of focus, rest and recovery, much as we all do. Without the exertion and discipline of an athlete, however, we may not be as self-aware of these needs. New evidence is showing that cannabinoidiol (CBD) aids athletic recovery and training in different doses and combinations.   Be aware, however, that when using THC, the psychoactive contribution of the plant, how you respond is very individual, and so no good dosing guidelines exist.   Cannabis to get focused with training Before, and leading up to the actual competition, athletes tend to need to find focus.  This takes CBD and, perhaps, THC combined. Many guides, such as this article on...

inward focus is key; outward focus is the door

Learning to focus on that which best serves

New life and reflection Spring is a beautiful time of growth, inward focus, new life and reflection. There’s a reason we often participate in spring cleaning—the harsh winter is behind us. With the sun and sprouting life comes the desire for a fresh, clean start. With this new start, we allow ourselves the optimum opportunity and setting to enjoy the welcomed season. Spring also allows us to reflect on so many areas of our life. If we are wise, we can use this time to look inward and do a self-spring clean. We can rid ourselves of the habits, attitudes and relationships that are as harsh or unwelcome as the desolation of winter. By turning our focus to the important and beautiful things in life, we...

Support our veterans at Visions in Black and White fundraising event

By Kelly Rockey Imagine being someone who spends a good part of their life making wishes come true. For Sandy Mitchell, that life is a reality. Sandy is the founder of Project Help for veterans fundraising, an all-volunteer, 501c3 charity in New Jersey. Project Help has one mission and one mission only, to support veterans and their families in times of need.  Those needs usually revolve around lack of funds due to lack of meaningful employment, second only to lack of housing, especially when a family is involved.     Why Project Help for veterans needs our help Many vets are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD] and Traumatic Brain Injury [TBI] both usually the result of being in the military and being in combat.  Neither is curable,...

September: the Month of Wishes

By Seshat Ixchel   The calm after the storm of eclipses and retrogrades has arrived, and with it a new set of energies emerge. August was a very intense month of purging, self realization, meticulous self-evaluation, and listening to your body. August gave us two eclipses which illuminated and activated us into proper action when it came to self-care. The month came and went on a steady pace, but with it came a lot of healing. This month, as we focus on wishes, know that the moon and wishes make a powerful pairing. We’ll offer some insight on how you can use the ever-flowing energy of the heavens to make those wishes come true in a solid and healthy way.   Calm among shifting energy September starts with Mercury in...

The Last Bits of Summer: Wrapping-Up Masculine and Feminine

By Lizbeth Fabian The last bits of summer have come and gone, and it’s time to take one last look at August. It’s time for a monthly wrap-up! This month we explored the many different aspects of masculine and feminine. Stories on Yin and Yang, the inner workings of gender, and how each side works together were sure to teach a thing or two about balance.   Thanks to students from William Paterson University, we had a great selection of articles that dug deep into the world of Masculine and Feminine. Pieces like the Benefits of Stay-At-Home Fathers, Gender Stereotyping, and the Yin and Yang of Food are just a few examples of how diverse that world can be. The Yin Yang of Masculine and Feminine, discussed the...

Hello! Mind Key’s month of Manifestation has come to an end and that means… it’s time for a wrap-up!   This July, our writers at Mind Key have explored a variety topics on Manifesting. Advice was shared on manifesting the things (and even people) you most desire into your life, excellent services were offered, and you might’ve walk away with a new, hopefully positive, mindset!   Vera Remes started us off with a great article that explains the science of manifestation, also known as the Law of Attraction. She takes us deep into how Quantum Therapy best supports our ability to get the things we want.    If you’re not too into the science talk, no worries! We also have an article by Lizbeth Fabian that explains how meditation can positively change your...

Oktoberfest – Not Just For Germans

Although not technically a harvest festival, Oktoberfest is one of the most well-known fall festivals worldwide, and represents the basic human need for community and celebration. Today, Oktoberfest smacks of fall, with seasonal beverages and attractions to connect and recharge. The City of Munich’s website claims the origin of Oktoberfest, goes back to October 12, 1810.  It was on that day that the future King Ludwig I married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen, giving all of Munich a reason to celebrate.  The festivity brought inspiration to celebrate yet again the following year, beginning the massive tradition of Oktoberfest. Each year since that famous wedding, new attractions, agricultural shows, contests, and beer tasting stations have been added to the festivity.   Like many harvest celebrations, Paige Villiard of The Black Label, writes...

With the Autumnal Equinox last week, we need to switch our gardening mindset to winter preparation.  With these tips from Glenwild Garden Center about watering your new trees and shrubs, your lawn and garden should be in good shape for the coming seasons. Water is the one of the most important things we put into our bodies on a regular basis.  The question is, however, what's in your water? Teachers and Students Connecting Through Nature

Every day I am a runner in a maze as if I were Zelda from the first Nintendo system. One day I teach, and they learn meanings of words like "scruples" and facts about the real Dracula. The next day I am shadowing a student who at any moment could disappear into the woods, or I am intervening in a verbal battle between a bully and his or her prey. "Enough with the side conversations. Get off the table, please. Focus on your work. Stop cursing." These are a few of my favorite daily declarations. But then there might be a Wednesday or Thursday when I get to play Scrabble with my struggling readers. There may be a Friday when I can get the...

Blind Men Driving?

Blind Men Driving? When two guys, jamming together a couple times a week met a third guy, they decided they might as well start a band.  Perhaps because of their humble beginnings they considered themselves the blind leading the blind, hence the name “Blind Men Driving?”They may be driving blind but that hasn’t stopped them from playing their original tunes across Pennsylvania and New Jersey at benefit shows such as Trinity Summer Fest this weekend. This past April they put together a benefit for the Ecumenical Food Pantry of Pike County and also played at the Willco Fire Bay benefit in June.  September brings an event for diabetes, and of course this weekend’s Trinity Summer Fest is benefiting the Willco Fire Bay renters and the Branchville, NJ fire department.“They're...
